After the US government has banned online casinos, and all kind of gambling on the Internet all the players moved to Europe that is milder to online gamblers. However, it seems that Norway decided to show its severe temper of the northern country.

The first moves towards the ban of online gambling were made last November when the Norwegian Government has submitted the proposal for a period of public comment which was to be ended in February, 2008.

These days a new battle began. The thing is that this ban is an initiative of the Norwegian government which desires to follow the US and its UIGEA. The law of the Norwegian government is completely based on the mentioned UIGEA and is believed to be approved. However, unlike the US that is completely independent Norway is part of the EU's market and is located in European Economic Area and the adoption of this law may cause several problems.

The local press goes all the way for the adoption of the law and considers the gambling as a parent of evil. However, the European Commission in Brussels has another point of view and thinks that this rule is inapplicable. The analysts say that this issue will finally end in European Court of Justice.

However, if adopted by the Norwegian parliament the new law could come into effect as soon as next spring.
