Over the past 48 hours there have been two events, which can easily be like links in a chain. On Tuesday afternoon, the largest Russian-language exchange of crypto-currencies-BTC-e was closed on "unscheduled maintenance work", and yesterday it became known that a little earlier, a 38-year-old Russian citizen, Alexander Vinnik, suspected by the US authorities in laundering large sums of money in bitcoins, was arrested.

As you know, owners of BTC-e diligently kept anonymity, though some sources, including WizSecurity and bitcoin journalist Kyle Torpey as well as the administrator of the service qugla.com, which also conducted the marketing campaign of the Humaniq start-up claim that Alexander Vinnik is one of the owners and administrators of BTC-e.

A bit later information about the connection between Alexandra Vinnik and BTC-e was confirmed by the Greek police. There is no reliable information about the future of the exchange at this time, however, the connection between yesterday's arrest and the closure of the stock exchange has cleared up.

Things got worse later on after the accusation saying that Vinnik laundred the Bitcoins stolen from MtGox in 2013. The assumption possible is that Vinnik actually created BTC-e in order to sell the stolen MtGox Bitcoins. The information comes from pretty reliable resources such as WizSecurity, Coindesk, we have no reasons to ignore them.

Whatever things may be, forecasts are disappointing. If within nearest 48 hours the situation is not resolved in a positive way, with a high degree of probability customers of BTC-e can forget about the money. Whether the exchange will keep working capacity after the arrest of at least one of its owners, and what will happen to the funds on the purses of the exchange, we can not say. Probably, we should expect a long trial, according to the results of which a decision will be made.
